Some subjects, especially human poltergeist agents, have shown significant ability for PK when tested in scientific laboratories under controlled conditions.

Psychokinesis can occur spontaneously or intentionally which indicates it is an unconscious and a conscious process. PK has been recorded since ancient times. This includes poltergeists, people moving objects by only using their minds, telekinesis and apports and other physical phenomena.

An Analysis of PK Tests in Laboratories

Between 1935 and 1987, fifty-two investigators conducted one-hundred and forty-eight tests for PK ability. Dean Radin PhD, Senior Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, IONS, and Diane Ferrari did an analysis of the tests and found that the control studies yielded 50.02%, odds against chance was two to one and those in which mental influence was employed yielded 51.2%, odds against chance was a billion to one. Their findings weren’t due to the file-drawer effect which refers to unethical researchers filing away studies with negative results, those that prove nothing or aren’t supportive of the theory that’s being studied.

One of the criticisms of parapsychological testing had been that researchers ignored studies with negative outcomes. In 1975, the American Parapsychological Association established a policy against reporting only experiments with positive results.

Field PK and Poltergeists

It’s theorized that there are two types of poltergeist agents, human, HAP, and entity, EAP. There is a psychological profile for the HAP, once thought to be limited to prepubescent children. The agent feels uncomfortable emotions, such as frustration and anger, which are repressed and manifest subconsciously in the form of PK. Typical activity includes objects moving or being hurled, electrical and electronic equipment being affected, knockings and rappings. The activity is centered on the agent and happens only when s/he is present and is limited to that which the agent could physically perform. When tested for PK, HAPs score significantly higher than non-agents.

EAPs exhibit an intelligence of their own. Their repertoire includes those of the HAP and more. They can move heavy objects, start fires and make water appear. Some limit their activity to rock throwing or drumming. Activity is centered on a place, not a person.

There have been documented cases of clocks stopping or starting, pictures falling and other objects being affected when a person dies or is in a psychological crisis. Some believe these incidents are caused by PK.

PK, Telekinesis and Apports

According to theory, telekinesis, TK, is a type of PK. This is the ability to materialize and dematerialize living beings and objects from a distance. TK was popular during the zenith of physical mediumship’s popularity.

While many cases of apports, when scientifically investigated, were unmasked as frauds, some evidenced no trickery and were considered genuine. Modern parapsychologists have studied this phenomenon in the field and in laboratories. HAPs and EAPs have been found to demonstrate TK.

Does PK Exist?

Although it isn’t generally acknowledged by the scientific establishment that PK exists, many parapsychologists believe that tightly controlled experiments which have been duplicated with identical results support the phenomenon’s existence. These tests involve subjects trying to affect objects.

HAPs have been investigated in the field by parapsychologists and others who have witnessed and recorded the activity. Photographs of the agent affecting objects exist. Some HAPs have been given psychological and medical tests as part of the investigation in addition to being tested for PK ability. Documentation of the activity and scientific findings support the reality of PK.

The EAP, as proof of PK’s existence, isn’t provable by the scientific method. The only evidence is eye-witness accounts and the objects that have been affected by PK, except in the case of the drumming poltergeist who leaves no physical traces.

Perhaps, some day, scientists will have the proof they require to acknowledge the reality of PK’s existence.
