Street Light Interference Syndrome

Electromagnetic Field or Psychic Phenomenon?

Is Street Light Interference Syndrome, a person's interference with electrical items, caused by natural electromagnetic fields or is it a psychic phenomenon?

People dealing with this condition are known as “SLIders,” a phrase coined by paranormal researcher Hilary Evans. Light bulbs do not last long in SLIders’ homes or offices. They may frequently have lights (including fluorescent lights in stores, overhead lights outside auditoriums) suddenly turn off around them. Their televisions often make buzzing noises, or the television volume goes up and down randomly without touching the set. Computers may malfunction, batteries go dead, sound systems blow, and cellphone batteries refuse to hold a charge or the phones themselves go haywire. Most SLIders have no idea what is happening to them or what is causing the problem.

Emotional Electromagnetic Field?

It is not outside the realm of probability that this may be found to be a natural phenomenon rather than a supernatural one. The human nervous system is powered by electrical impulses that travel back and forth through the nerves, the spinal cord, and the brain. This creates a very slight electromagnetic field, but one that is too weak to affect anything. SLIders, however, seems to have an unusually strong electromagnetic field. When they experience a high degree of stress of emotion, the excess energy seems to be able to travel through the air and interfere with the electromagnetic field of an electronic item. This heightened energy field results in buzzing TVs, blown light bulbs, dead cellphones, and occasionally crazily blinking traffic lights.

Coincidence or Psychic Phenomenon?

Researchers, however, are sharply divided on this issue. Leonardo Vintiñi, writing in the Epoch Times, points out that some skeptics claim that SLI is just a coincidence; streetlights often go out and people who seem to see it more regularly are just paying better attention or looking for it to happen. Some believe that it is a sign of psychic power and others believe it to be a result of spirits or ghosts that haunt the person in question.

Recent Research

The Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP) is actively investigating SLI using objective scientific investigative techniques. Hilary Evans, working in conjunction with the ASSAP has done an extensive amount of research in the area of SLI and can be considered an expert in the field. He has published a book on the subject, called The SLI Effect (London:Frome, ASSAP, 1993, 2005) in which he examines the different theories surrounding SLI.

This phenomenon warrants further study; if it turns out to be valid there are many ramifications for energy companies, appliance manufacturers, and for the SLIders themselves.

I have a shoe box full of dead watches. The minute hand bent on two pocket watches. There was a period of time when street lights routinely went out when I passed under them. Other things happen.

Street ligts also turn off when I walk past them. At least every other car driving in front of me has a broken brakelight. I just decided to research this tonight for the first time, this being the first website.

Streetlights used to go off for me all the time, though it has not happened that recently. Lightbulbs go out very quickly in my house and watches do not last either. Interesting.

I have been telling people for years that I cause lights to go out. I had no idea it was a phenomenon others experienced or that had been researched. I would tell them jokingly that that's where my "special powers" come from. I once drove through a town and each entire block went out as I drove through. Conversely, my watches & cell phones have always worked fine.

Street lights go off for me frequently as well.
This one time. I was with some friends and i was a bit stressed out and suddenly my mp3 player laptop and cellphone all just crashed and shut off at the same time. I couldn't get them to work until I plugged them in. This has been happening a lot. Computers, phones, anything. Yet when i'm in a good mood it has a positive effect on them.

I have been noticing the SLI effects for quite some time now... it used to really bother me, but I don't think about it much anymore. What does bother me is what others have been saying about the cellphones, dead batteries, lights blowing, and computers acting quirky. I'm in college online right now, and had finals. All of a sudden my monitor just kept blinking off...I was under a lot of stress. I changed monitors, it blinked of about twice, but then it was ok. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone.

I have been experiencing this since I was a child. In situations where I have been extremely upset or angered, entire restaurants, office buildings and once an entire small island blacked out.
Today I have redirected this energy and work with people to heal them through energy. It's a gift and it should never be overlooked nor abused.

I have had instances that cannot be explained. There has been a specific street light that would go out whenever i passed it at just the right distance. After i had left i turned back on. I could tell you exactly when it would turn off at different times of the night just based on my distance. The weirdest was when i was walking Downtown the shops had lights over the sidewalk. Two on my side and one across the street turned off and it followed me all the way down the road the lights behind me turning back on. Many watches do not work when i wear them. I can prove to any scientist without a doubt that this occurs as long as i can find a light sensitive enough to turn off when i am near it or, if it is still there, using the one i walked by many times. I can't control it nor explain it but it happens. That's a fact, it's not always coincidence.

WOW me too I have noticed this since I was 20 "When I started driving"
I have asked my friends who ride with me to notice and most of them noticed it and were shocked. I am sure that my friends at then end they will think it is just bad luck, but it is not.

Also I noticed this happens more when I am in a bad mood, and this affects only street lights, maybe sometime bulbs at home blow up but it seems normal.

I believe if researchers work on this, they will find a source of energy that ignites from human and can be used for good things.

Peace to all of people who are facing this phenomena.

So glad to find people who go through therse weird phenomena. In my case, it started a few weeks ago. No watch works on my wrist. As a teacher, I have a tight schedule and have tried about 12 different watches. They all work on other people's wrists , but on mine, they either stop, go too fast, or too slow. Weird, but cool...

For all the genius people who say "I noticed this when I drive" well that is because at night you use the headlights on your car and seeing as how street lights are deactivated by lights, that is whats happening. I do have a story though, yesterday morning I woke up and it was like 6 o clock in the morning, I was still super tired and really strssed out, so when I looked outside every single street light instantly shut off on my whole street... it was weird too, because just as I did this, I also made a huge orange fireball come up over the horizon and everything got bright outside. I'm not saying this ability doesnt exist, but common, at least use common sense, like 3 people said this so far about driving and lights. I would also like to know how the guy in a good mood has a "Possitive effect" on his electronics. This just goes to show that people can convince themselves with anything if they think too hard.

LOL. This has been happening to me since I was a kid. My wife and I always habitually touch each other's hands before kissing for fear of getting shocked on the lips. When we first started dating, I walked her to her car and gave her a kiss. The street light above us went out. It's happened many times since. I shock folks by merely handing them paper.
At first I thought it was a coincidence. Then just a quirk, but it's starting to get expensive. This is a rundown on what I can think of that had to be replaced within the last four years.
Brand new fridge went out in 4 days (kitchen aid) 2006
Brand new deep freeze, came on, but never worked (kitchen aid) 2006
Washer fails on most cycles (cabrio) 2006
Sony big screen 2004...repaired 3 times under warranty, once for $530.00. Just recently gave it away.
2 rice cookers, 1 toaster oven, 1 toaster, 1 deep fryer, 2 blenders, microwave, smoke alarms, 4 modems, 1 router, 2 battery backups, two monitors, 3 dvd drives, 1 power supply, 2 fans, 1 full computer crash. all HP, 4 blue -tooth ear buds, 2 cell phones + my wife's too. My amp is on her 4th re-tube and 2nd power supply. I can't use my $400.00 wireless system due to interference.
TV's, radios, baby monitors, and microphones squeal or buzz on approach, I can't wear watches, temporarily short out banks of street lights, lots of electrical failures in every vehicle including the lawn mower, battery operated toys get up and start doing their thing, all lights in my home go out regularly...especially downstairs???
I can't document any of this, but I have plenty of witnesses. It usually happens when I'm really happy or really stressed. Like I said, coincidence? Does anyone else out there have these problems too?

This has happened to me for several years now too. At first I thought it was just coincidence, that maybe I was just observant of light going off, but over time it seems to happen frequently enough that I believe it is more that just coincidence. And for the commenter below who blames it on headlights - I walk more than drive and it happens to me all the time when I approach a street light on foot and it goes off with cars no where around that could be triggering it with a headlight. Just the other night between the Metro exit and m car in a parking lot three different lights went out as I approached. No cars were operating with headlights in the lot or the street nearby at the time. As others have mentioned here it seems to also be tied to my emotional state. When I am in high emotional or stress mode it happens much more frequently. I haven't worn a watch in years because the batteries would never last long. I told my mom about it and she has witnessed it herself several times now when with me.

SLIders & the Streetlight Phenomenon - Facebook Group

This group was created to share experiences, support eachother, and learn more about this phenomenon.

I am a SLIder, and I notice that when I'm not overly emotional, I can only effect weaker electronic devices, like streetlamps that are flickering. When in more extreme emotional states, like depression and loneliness, I am able to effect more powerful things like regular streetlights and other building lights. I used to walk every day for several hours sometimes when I felt really alone or sad, and walking in darkness was something I had wished for - and often received.

My mother has never heard of this term, but used to tell stories of how many watches she would break. I remember when I little she would have 10 or so watches sitting on her dresser, all broken after wearing it for a less than a month, sometimes days or even hours.

I'm not sure if I feel this is paranormal, however it is unexplained, unproven, and doesn't happen to everyone.
