One of many different forms of psychic ability is called psychometry.

Psychometry is the psi ability to receive information from an inanimate objects. The term psychometry was coined in 1842 by Joseph R. Buchanan, an American physiologist professor.

Meaning "soul measurement," the word is derived from the Greek "psyche," meaning soul and "metron," meaning measurement. Buchanan conducted psychometry experiments with his students and published his findings in Journal of Man.

How Psychometry Works

Psychometry is based on the ability to receive information from energy imprinted into objects. It's as if one is able to see the history of the object. Some believe that the information they receive comes directly from the object. Others believe it comes from the Akashic Records.

Group Psychometry Experiment

In a group setting, ask people to place a personal object in a bag. Make sure that no one places an item that is easily recognized by other individuals in the group. Instruct everyone to pick an object out of the bag and place it in their hands. Have them close their eyes and see what comes to them. It could be pictures in their mind, thoughts or emotions.

After a few minutes, ask each person to relay what they picked up on. Some participants may have had nothing happened at all, while others might be able to give detailed descriptions of the object or the person who owns the object. In some cases the reader might be able to tell about the owner's home or even the family pet. Validation is very important in this type of experiment, so be sure the objects' owners validate any correct information no matter how small or trivial.

Individual Psychometry Experiment

This can be a fun experiment and may allow a person to see things that most people can't. If visiting an area with historic buildings, place hands on a building, close eyes, and see what visions come into the mind. It could be a scene from the past or perhaps people who were once in the building. Being that the building is historic, there's a good chance one can find a local historian to validate what has been seen.

Practical Uses For Psychometry

Psychics will sometimes use psychometry in helping police to solve crimes. By holding an object owned by the victim, psychics can sometimes acquire information that can be beneficial to police in their investigations.

In practicing psychometry, keep in mind that this is a learned skill and something that can be improved upon with practice. As with any type of psychic ability, the more it is practiced, the better the ability will be.
