English medium, clairvoyant and psychic Lisa Williams was discovered by the legendary television producer Merv Griffin in 2004. She was then given her own television series, Life Among The Dead, and went on to write a book by the same name. She has also performed live shows in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia.
Many people who attend her shows are keen to know how she decides who to give a reading to. In an exclusive interview with Suite101’s Amanda Woods, Williams explained that the decision isn’t up to her.
“I am completely at the mercy of the spirits. They will tell me how long a reading’s going to be, they dictate what they want to say. If they don’t want to say anything then they won’t, if they just want to say "Hi," then that’s what they’ll do.
"I don’t take requests. I get a lot of cards and messages backstage but I don’t open those until after I’ve completed my show. There are two reasons. The first is I don’t want to be influenced by any prior knowledge if I do a reading for someone. Then there’s the fact that I don’t have a magic telephone. I don’t say, 'Hi, I want to speak to Uncle Bob.' It doesn’t quite work that way,” Williams explained.
Clairvoyant Readings for Skeptics
There are many people who believe that Lisa Williams, and all psychics for that matter, are frauds. Skeptics claim that mediums lead the audience members on and trick them into believing they have had contact from a loved one who has passed on.
Williams says she is not offended by skeptics, and if the opportunity presents itself, she enjoys reading for them.
“Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. At the end of the day, it’s up to them, and if they want to believe, they believe. But I remember going up to somebody at one of my shows in Sydney and saying to him ‘You’re a real skeptic aren’t you?’ He looked shocked and said ‘Yes, I am,’ and I told him I was going to read for him. It really can happen that way.”
Finding the Right Person for a Psychic Reading in an Audience
Lisa says when a spirit comes through, they will sometimes work with her own guide to tell her who their message is for and where they are sitting in the audience.
“I’ll be given the information, maybe their name and then we’ll pin point where they are. You do get the odd person who doesn’t want to say anything, and will sit on their hands forever until the person next to them speaks up. They’ll say something like ‘my boyfriend Michael doesn’t want to say anything, but you’re describing him and his friend…’ and it’s really quite funny.”
Lisa says there have only been a few times when she has been confused by a reading in a live show, and has walked away wondering what went wrong. “Then I get an email later [from the audience member] saying, ‘I’m so sorry, I was so shocked I just didn’t know what to say.’”
Lisa Williams’ Tour and Book Life Among the Dead
Williams says she can often be inspired when she's on the road, and that she came up with the idea for her second book on her first Australian tour in April 2009. She says she expects to finish the book on her second Australian tour in September of the same year.
